WHY WE ASK &

WHY IT MATTERS

Our questionnaires are designed to help you reflect on your reasons and expectations for cosmetic treatments.

The goal is to make sure the treatment aligns with your personal goals and is the right decision for you, both physically and mentally.

1

PAST AESTHETIC
PROCEDURES

If you’ve had cosmetic treatments before, thinking about whether they met your expectations can give you a better sense of what you want this time around. It also helps your practitioner understand your past experiences so they can personalise their approach for you.

If it’s your first time, that’s exciting! This question is just the starting point for you to share what you're hoping to achieve, so you and your practitioner are on the same page from the get-go.

2

TIMING &
TRIGGERS

How long you’ve been considering the procedure is important! Shorter "cooling off" periods may be fine for minimally invasive treatments, but surgical options need more thought. If it's been on your mind for a while, it’s likely you’ve done some research and weighed the pros and cons. If it’s a more recent thought, that’s okay too—just be sure

you’ve had enough time to fully consider it and feel informed. Asking "why now" helps you and your practitioner better understand your motivations, ensuring it’s not an emotional or reactive decision— especially if an appearance--related comment triggered your interest in the procedure.

3

GOALS and MOTIVATIONS

What are you hoping to achieve with this treatment?

This is one of the most important things to think about before going ahead with any procedure. Motivations tend to go beyond 'just wanting to look good'—how we feel about ourselves is closely tied to our mental well-being.

There are plenty of healthy reasons to undergo a cosmetic procedure; people increasingly see it as a part of their self-care routine and a way to feel more aligned with their personal style or identity. The key is that the focus stays on your sense of comfort and well-being, and that your self-worth is not tied solely to your appearance.

Goals like trying to look significantly younger, attract a partner, look like someone else, or boost your social media presence can be problematic. These motivations are often rooted in external pressures, unrealistic expectations or the hope that the procedure will solve deeper emotional issues, which will likely lead to dissatisfaction in the long run.

4

FEELINGS ABOUT YOUR APPEARANCE

It’s normal to have insecurities -- we all have some! What's important to understand is how these concerns impact your overall mental health.

It's perfectly okay to feel mostly happy or neutral about your appearance while still wanting some enhancements; that can reflect a healthy, balanced mindset!

It may seem counterintuitive, but going for a cosmetic procedure while feeling deeply unhappy or distressed about your appearance can be a potential warning sign. Regular distress about appearance can sometimes indicate deeper issues like Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), anxiety, or depression, which often persists or even worsens after a cosmetic procedure.

Taking the time to address these feelings is important. It can help you and your practitioner uncover the true motivations behind your desire for treatment, ensuring that your decisions genuinely support your well-being.

5

LEVEL OF PREOCCUPATION

How often you think about the area of your appearance you want to treat is important to consider. It’s natural to think about your looks occasionally, but if it’s something that's on your mind constantly or causing you stress, it might signal a deeper issue.

Excessive preoccupation with your appearance can sometimes be linked to conditions like Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), where cosmetic procedures have been shown not to bring the satisfaction patients are hoping for. In fact, the distress can persist or even worsen. Recognising this is essential, so you can make sure your motivations come from a healthy place and get support if needed.

6

QUALITY OF LIFE &

EXPECTED IMPROVEMENT

People who experience a low quality of life might be more tempted to seek out a cosmetic procedure as a way to improve their mood or self-esteem. However, when life isn’t going well, it’s easy to pin hopes on external changes—like improving appearance—to fix internal struggles. The problem is, while a procedure might temporarily boost confidence, it’s unlikely to address deeper issues like stress, anxiety, or dissatisfaction with other areas of life. This can lead to disappointment if the procedure doesn’t bring the emotional relief they were hoping for, and the underlying issues may persist or even worsen.

If you’re feeling down or dissatisfied with your life overall, it’s worth thinking about whether a procedure is really the best step or if there are other areas that need attention first.

7

CONFIDENCE
IN TREATMENT
OUTCOME

Feeling confident about the outcome of your treatment is great, but it's important to keep in mind that no procedure can guarantee perfection. If you're very confident but realistic, that’s a healthy mindset! However, if you're counting on the treatment to make you happy or solve personal challenges, it could be worth re-evaluating.

Having low confidence in the outcome of your treatment may suggest that you have some lingering doubts or uncertainties about the procedure itself, the skills of the practitioner, or whether the treatment aligns with your personal goals. Open communication with your practitioner about your concerns can help clarify expectations and provide reassurance, ultimately supporting a more positive experience.

Take a moment to consider how you might feel if the treatment doesn't meet your expectations. Emotions like disappointment or frustration can reveal deeper concerns about self-worth or acceptance. If your happiness is significantly tied to the results of this procedure, it might indicate a need to explore these feelings further.

How would you feel is the treatment doesn't meet your expectations?

8

FINANCIAL  IMPACT

Thinking about the financial side of things can feel a bit awkward, but it’s super important! If you’re feeling stressed about the cost of the procedure or how you’ll handle payments, it might be a sign that you need to take a step back. You want to make sure this treatment fits comfortably into your life, not adds extra pressure. Talking openly with your practitioner about your budget and any concerns can help you find a solution that feels right for you. Remember, it's totally okay to bring up these topics—financial health is just as important as your physical and emotional well-being!
