About
The Body Dysmorphic Disorder Questionnaire (BDDQ) is a concise, self-report tool based on the DSM-IV criteria for BDD. It uses close-ended questions to determine if respondents are preoccupied with their appearance and evaluates the extent to which this preoccupation causes distress or impacts their social or occupational functioning (Phillips, 2009). Designed as a screening tool for BDD in psychiatric settings, the BDDQ was validated in a psychiatric outpatient sample (n = 66), showing high sensitivity (100%) and specificity (89%) (Phillips et al., 1995). In a psychiatric inpatient sample (n = 122), it demonstrated a sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 93% (Grant et al., 2001).
