Whether you're a solo practitioner, part of a larger practice or run your own clinic, we understand that most of your time needs to be spent on treating to your patients.
Ensuring patients are mentally ready for treatment is challenging and takes time, not to mention the specialist training that's required! We aim to help you work more efficiently by streamlining the mental health aspect of consultations- simply refer your patient to PREPÆRE™, allow them to complete the assessment and view instant results, along with recommended next steps.
BENEFITS
SAVE TIME & FOCUS ON YOUR CORE EXPERTISE
PREPÆRE streamlines the process of identifying warning signs of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) and other mental health concerns that are difficult to spot during a brief consultation and without extensive specialist training. By managing pre-treatment mental health assessments, PREPÆRE allows you to focus on your core expertise: delivering exceptional treatments to your patients.
DEMONSTRATE YOUR COMMITMENT TO ETHICAL PRACTICE
Show your commitment to ethical care by prioritising your patients' psychological wellbeing. Mental health screenings help identify those who may not benefit from, or could be harmed by, aesthetic procedures—especially patients with BDD, who often see their mental health worsen in the aftermath. PREPÆRE helps identify patients who may not be well-suited for cosmetic procedures, ensuring better patient outcomes and ethical treatment decisions.
USE A RELIABLE & STANDARDISED SCREENING METHOD
PREPÆRE offers practitioners a reliable, standardised mental health screening process that ensures consistency and thoroughness in patient assessments. This standardisation not only enhances the quality of your pre-treatment evaluations but also reinforces your practice's professionalism, helping you meet ethical standards while streamlining the decision-making process.
SIMPLIFY DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS
PREPÆRE simplifies the often challenging conversations around mental health by providing a structured, objective approach to pre-treatment screening. Patients can complete the questionnaire privately before the consultation, fostering honesty and openness. The results and next step recommendations provide a clear starting point for discussions, while patients are also guided to relevant resources right after completing the assessment.
PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR REPUTATION
By identifying patients who may be prone to dissatisfaction, such as those with underlying mental health issues like Body Dysmorphia (BDD), you can safeguard yourself and your reputation. Early detection of these concerns allows for more informed decisions about treatment suitability, reducing the likelihood of negative outcomes, complaints, or legal complications, while also highlighting your dedication to patient safety and ethical care.

What is PREPÆRE?PREPÆRE is an online platform designed to ensure patients are mentally and physically ready for cosmetic procedures. We offer psychological assessments and educational resources about appearance-related mental health issues. Select of the buttons below to learn more:
-
Who is PREPÆRE for?PREPÆRE was created for 3 main audiences: 01 AESTHETICS TREATMENT PROVIDERS Our primary target audience is cosmetic treatment providers, who benefit from a subscription that allows them to outsource the mental health screening aspect of their consultations. This ensures their patients have all the necessary information and support to arrive at their appointments mentally as well as physically prepared. Cosmetic treatment providers include medical aestheticians, plastic surgeons, cosmetic dentists, dermatologists and anyone else providing beauty treatments. 02 PATIENTS While aesthetic practitioners can use the platform to find useful resources and recommendations, patients are the main end-user base. Anyone planning a cosmetic treatment - or simply wanting to learn more about medical aesthetics procedures and/ or mental health issues - can take a standard, free, anonymous questionnaire and access relevant resources. 03 MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS Mental health professionals - including psychotherapists, psychiatrists and academics - are a key part of the PREPÆRE community. Mental health services providers can create a profile on PREPÆRE to connect with patients who may benefit from professional support before undergoing cosmetic procedures, or with aesthetics practitioners who are looking to learn more about common appearance-related issues that may affect their patients.
-
What's the mission?PREPÆRE's mission revolves around 3 main points: 01 SAFEGUARD PATIENTS’ MENTAL HEALTH 98% of individuals suffering from BDD have no benefit from elective cosmetic interventions. In fact, research shows that after undergoing aesthetic procedures, 88% of BDD patients became more aware of the perceived defect, and 76% found new concerns. This matters because BDD is a potentially life-threatening disorder with 24-28% of patients attempting suicide. PREPÆRE is here to facilitate early identification of BDD as well as other appearance related disorders. 02 SIMPLIFY PRE-TREATMENT SCREENING Make mental health assessment before cosmetic procedures fast, simple, accessible and intuitive. While over 75% of aesthetic practitioners are in favour of pre-treatment psychological screening, over 78% of them do not employ a screening method because existing tools are time consuming, expensive, difficult to interpret, and complicated. PREPÆRE aims to make pre-treatment assessments user-friendly and effortless, and become a standard part of the consultation process across the medical aesthetics industry. 03 BUILD A COMMUNITY PREPÆRE is more than just a platform for psychological assessments and education on appearance-related mental health issues; we are building a community. By connecting medical aesthetics practitioners, patients, and mental health professionals, we hope to foster the sharing of knowledge and resources. Our mission is to raise awareness of mental health issues within the beauty industry, ensuring everyone involved is informed, supported, and empowered.
-
How does it work?1. Once registered, the aesthetics practitioner sends a link/ QR code to the patient to refer them to their custom online questionnaire. 2. After completing the questionnaire, the patient receives immediate results and is guided through a detailed results page. This page explains the relevant mental health issue, offering practical advice related to both the aesthetic treatment they are considering, and their mental well-being. Additionally, it provides recommendations of mental health professionals that the patient can engage with if they choose to seek further support. 3. The practitioner receives a notification when their patient completes the screening. The practitioner is given the next step recommendations, and can view their patients' results.
-
How does PREPÆRE benefit my practice?PREPÆRE is designed to make the running of your practice easier in multiple ways: 1. identifying patients who may be unsuitable for cosmetic procedures 2. making sure your patients are mentally as well as physically ready for their treatments and turn up to your practice ready to go 3. providing resources and access to training to help you keep up to date with the changing regulations 4. safeguarding patients' mental health and promoting informed and holistic care
-
Can I choose which questionnaire do my patients need to answer?Yes, PREPÆRE offers a number of clinically validated questionnaires designed to assess mental health factors relevant to cosmetic procedures. Depending on your subscription plan, you can select one or more of the screening tools you wish to use, or even use your own questionnaire.
-
What if my patient screens positive for a mental health issue?A positive screening result suggests heightened awareness or potential distress related to appearance, but it doesn't necessarily confirm a diagnosis. Patients are encouraged to seek mental health support to further explore their concerns and ensure they are mentally prepared for any cosmetic procedures they are considering. As a practitioner, you can use this information to initiate a conversation with the patient about their mental health and the potential impact on their treatment outcomes. It's recommended to discuss the results openly, provide supportive guidance, and encourage them to seek further evaluation and support.
-
Will my patients be discouraged from proceeding with their procedure? No, PREPÆRE does not discourage patients from proceeding with their cosmetic procedures based on screening results alone. Our platform aims to provide informative insights into mental health readiness, empowering patients to make informed decisions about their treatments. We prioritise supporting patients throughout their journey, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and guidance while respecting their autonomy in treatment choices.
-
Is my patients' data kept confidential?Patient confidentially is the top priority. PREPÆRE's assessments are powered by BlockSurvey, which is GDPR & HIPAA compliant. Our questionnaires are completely anonymous for patients; this means we do not ask for any personally identifiable information and do not collect respondent's IP addresses.
-
Who can view my patient's responses? While PREPÆRE can see patients' submitted responses, only you are able to link them to individual patients. After subscribing, you'll receive a unique link with access to all the responses to your screening questionnaire. Instead of their name, patients can enter a word/ PIN of their choice that enables you to link their responses to them.
-
Is my information confidential?Absolutely. PREPÆRE is fully anonymous for patients. We do not ask for or collect any personally identifiable information. Our questionnaires are powered by BlockSurvey, which is GDPR and HIPAA compliant.
-
What happens if my results indicate a mental health concern? If your results suggest you may benefit from speaking to a mental health professional, you’ll be provided with additional information and resources to learn more and decide on the best way forward. You can choose to connect with a mental health professional for further support but it is completely up to you to reach out.
-
Do I have to follow the recommendations provided? We aim to safeguard patients mental health without infringing on their autonomy. While we strongly encourage you to consider the recommendations, you are not obligated to follow them. They are meant to support your well-being and ensure you are fully prepared for your procedure.
-
Can the practitioner refuse treatment based on my questionnaire results?Yes, your practitioner may decide to postpone or refuse treatment if your questionnaire results indicate significant mental health concerns, such as signs of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) or other issues that may impact your well-being. This is done with your best interest in mind, ensuring that any procedure you undergo is safe and beneficial for you. The practitioner will work with you to address these concerns and may recommend speaking with a mental health professional before proceeding.
-
Why is it so important to screen patients for mental health issues?Identifying Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) and other mental health issues before proceeding with cosmetic treatments is essential for ensuring both your mental and physical well-being. These conditions can affect how you perceive the results of the treatment and may lead to persistent dissatisfaction or further psychological distress. By recognizing and addressing these issues beforehand, practitioners can provide better support, offer appropriate guidance, and ensure that any cosmetic procedure you undergo contributes positively to your overall health and happiness.
-
What if I had a cosmetic procedure done before? Do I still have to take the questionnaire?Yes, it’s important to take the questionnaire even if you’ve had cosmetic procedures done before. Mental health can change over time, and previous experiences can influence your current mindset. The practitioner may require it to ensure your mental readiness and safety. By taking the questionnaire, you help your practitioner understand your current mental state and any potential concerns that might impact the outcome of your procedure. This step is essential in creating a personalised and supportive treatment plan, prioritising your overall well-being. It’s all about ensuring you have the best possible experience, both mentally and physically.
-
How can I get involved with PREPÆRE?Mental health professionals can create a profile on our platform to connect with patients who may need their expertise. This allows you to offer your services to a targeted audience seeking support for appearance-related mental health issues.
-
Can I actively reach out to patients?Mental health providers cannot actively reach out to patients as their data is not shared for privacy reasons. However, when patients complete the questionnaire and their results indicate they could benefit from professional support, they are provided with suggestions of mental health services. Patients can then choose to contact you if they feel they need your expertise. This ensures patients have access to the care they need while respecting their privacy and autonomy.
-
What are the benefits of being listed on PREPÆRE?By joining PREPÆRE, you can expand your reach to patients who are specifically looking for help with appearance-related mental health issues. You’ll also be part of a community that values and promotes mental well-being in the context of cosmetic treatments.
